The U.K. government added 11 oil tankers to the sanctions list, as stated in the justification for the sanctions, which are allegedly used by Russia to bypass restrictions on trade in Russian oil and petroleum products, thus participating in destabilizing Ukraine and undermining or threatening Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, or independence, or making profits at the expense of the Russian government, or providing support for it.
Two of the tankers are owned by Sovcomflot JSC, the largest shipping company in Russia, whose net profit in the first quarter of 2023 was $216,019 million according to its report.
Shares of Sovkomflot fell about 5% in value on July 19 after sanctions were imposed.
