His Majesty’s Treasury, an agency acting as the Ministry of Finance of the United Kingdom, introduced a personal travel ban for the first time.
The Treasury imposed an entry ban on Nazem Ahmad, suspected of financing Hezbollah, and Mustafa Ayash, who “propagandizes terrorism through his participation in the Gaza Now media.”
Prior to that, financial sanctions were imposed on Nazem Ahmed and Mustafa Ayyash in April and March of 2023.
The ban, as noted by the Treasury, is the first application of new travel ban powers under domestic anti-terrorism sanctions. These travel bans are used to protect the integrity of the UK economy from terrorist financing threats. They are also used to prosecute individuals suspected of participating or participating in terrorist activities within the UK, even if they are not citizens of the country.
The subject of travel bans will be refused permission to enter or stay in the UK. Any application they make for a visa to travel to the UK, including for transit purposes, will be denied. Any foreign national subject to a travel ban who is currently in the UK will have their permission to remain in the country cancelled and steps will be taken to deport them from the United Kingdom.
