Taliban Minister of Information Travels to Russia Despite Sanctions

The Taliban has officially announced that the Minister of Information and Culture, H.E Mullah Khairullah Khairkhah, will arrive in St. Petersburg to take part in the international conference “Unity of Cultures”.

The international conference starts on September 11.

Khairullah Khairkhah was sanctioned by the UN in 2001.

“Khairullah Khairkhwah was listed on 25 January 2001 as Governor of the Herat Province of the Taliban regime so falling within the provisions of resolutions 1267 (1999) and 1333 (2000) of the United Nations Security Council regarding acts and activities of the Taliban authorities. Additional information: Khairullah Khairkhwah also served as Spokesperson of the Taliban regime, Governor of the Kabul Province of the Taliban regime, and Minister of Internal Affairs of the Taliban regime. Other information: In custody of the United States of America as at 2010,” – noted Interpol.

Saint-Petersburg is the second largest city in Russia.

The UN sanctions oblige countries to prevent the entry of persons on the sanctions list into their territory or transit through it.
