US seizes internet domains used by Russian intelligence agents

The United States is preparing to seize more than 100 internet domains that the country’s authorities associate with Callisto Group (Star Blizzard), which is involved in phishing attacks on organizations and companies. The group consists of Russians, including those working for the FSB.

The US Department of Justice has issued an arrest warrant for 41 internet domains used by Russian intelligence agencies and their proxies to commit computer fraud in the US.

Simultaneously, Microsoft announced the United States District Court for the District of Columbia has unsealed a civil action brought by Microsoft’s DCU, including its order authorizing Microsoft to seize 66 unique domains used by Star Blizzard in cyberattacks targeting Microsoft customers globally, including throughout the United States.

In December 2022, the US Department of Justice announced charges against two individuals associated with Callisto: Ruslan Alexandrovich Peretyatko, an FSB officer, and Andrei Stanislavovich Korinets, for organizing a campaign to hack computer networks in the United States, Great Britain, other members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and Ukraine, on behalf of the Russian government.

Microsoft has an online resource that publishes the addresses of internet domains suspected of being hacked, most of which are located in .com zones and some in .net zones.
