Sanctions against Russia have led to the fact that Russian businessmen have become more tolerant of bribery.
Scientists from the Ural Institute of Management, a branch of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, in the article “Social Legitimacy of Corruption under Sanctions: Assessment of Sentiments of Regional Business Community” announced the results of their study on the attitude of local businesspeople towards corruption against the backdrop of sanctions against Russia. The article was published in Regionology magazine.
The results of the study were as follows: in the pre–sanction 2021 year, the number of people loyal to corruption was 5.8%. In 2023, this figure increased by almost 2 times, to 12.8%. The number of those who were neutral to corruption also increased by 2 times: from 2.8% in 2019 to 6% in 2023. The number of people negatively disposed towards corrupt practices in business relationships decreased from 39.2% in 2021 to 35% in 2023. Ural Institute of Management
