The European Court of Justice refused to lift EU sanctions against the Serbian businessmen Bogolyub Karic. His business project was described by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko as a model for cooperation between Slavic countries.
In 2022, the European Union imposed sanctions on Bogolyub Karich because he and his family created a network of real estate companies in Belarus and had contacts with the family of President Lukashenko.
The Minsk-Mir project, a multifunctional complex consisting of 21 blocks of residential buildings in Minsk, was developed by a company associated with Karich. It was described by President Lukashenko as an example of cooperation between the Slavic countries.
But in court, materials were presented according to which the owner of a company from the United Arab Emirates, which bought Dana Holdings’ structures, turned out to be a close friend of the Karich family. Additionally, according to a statement dated May 9, 2023, by the son of the businessman it follows that despite the alleged change of ownership of Dana Holdings, the son of Karich remains the ultimate beneficiary of this company.
On the website of the President of Belarus, anyone can still find news from 2015, where Bogoljub Karic and Serbian MP Dragomir Karic present the Minsk-Mir project to Alexander Lukashenko.
Bogoljub Karich is also known in Russia. In 2010, the Russian authorities granted asylum to Bogolyub Karic, who was then accused in Serbia of financial fraud, as a result of which the state suffered damage of more than 40 million euros.
