On November 28, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling for new sanctions against Russia.
“Denouncing Iran, Belarus and North Korea for their military support of Russia, MEPs urge the EU member states to further strengthen the sanctions regime against these countries. They stress that both Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and North Korea’s participation in the war and its nuclear and missile programmes constitute grave threats to the rules-based international order,” the resolution says.
MEPs also call on Beijing to end all military or dual assistance it provides to Russia, adding that failure to change course risks seriously affecting EU-China bilateral relations.
The resolution requires the EU Council to expand sanctions against Russia, especially in relation to sectors of special economic importance, such as the metallurgical, nuclear, chemical, agricultural and banking sectors, as well as in relation to Russian raw materials.
