The US crushes the Russian oil sector with new sanctions

The United States has imposed massive sanctions on Russia’s shadow fleet and two of its largest oil producers: Public Joint Stock Company Gazprom Neft (Gazprom Neft) and Surgutneftegaz.

Gazprom Neft is one of three largest companies in terms of production and refinement. Its key shareholder, PJSC Gazprom, owns 95.68%. The network of filling stations operated by Gazprom Neft has about 2,400 stations in Russia and abroad.

In its latest published report, Surgutneftgaz PJSC said that it holds 10.6% market share in oil production and 6.4% in refining in Russia.

Sanctions have also been applied to subsidiaries involved in extraction and sale of oil, such as LLC “Kinef” and LLC “Pskovneftoprodut”.

The list of sanctioned companies also includes foreign entities like NIS AD Novi Sad (a subsidiary of Gazprom Neft in Serbia) and Gazprom Neft International SA (based in Luxembourg).

The sanctions also affected the Ingosstrakh insurance company and Alfastrahovanie Group, which had previously been sanctioned by the UK.

More than 180 ships of the “shadow fleet”, which Russia uses to bypass sanctions, have also been targeted.

Personal sanctions have also been imposed on individuals, including company executives:
