EU extends sanctions on Hamas supporters

The European Union has extended sanctions on Hamas supporters.

The Council of the European Union decided on January 13 to extend the existing restrictive measures against individuals and entities that support, facilitate, or enable violent actions by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad until January 20, 2026.

These sanctions concern 12 individuals and three companies, including the Zawaya Group for Development and Investment Co. Ltd. and Larrycom Investment Ltd., which are owned and controlled by Abdelbasit Elhassan Mohamed Khair Hamza, a financier of Hamas.

Sanctions were imposed on these individuals and companies after the terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

On October 7, 2023, around 6:30 am.m., during the holiday of Shmini Atzeret, Hamas launched an attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip, including a massive invasion of border areas, assaults on military bases, mass murders of Israeli civilians and the seizure of inhabited areas and military facilities. The terrorists captured 251 people as hostages.
