UK lifts sanctions on a Russian deputy who sold his business to PepsiCo

The UK has lifted sanctions against the Russian businessman Nikolay Bortsov and State Duma Deputy, who died two years ago.

The notification from the  Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI) of HM Treasury of the United Kingdom regarding the lifting of sanctions on Nikolai Bortsov is dated January 30, 2025.

Nikolay Ivanovich Bortsov was a well-known Russian businessman, a deputy in the State Duma, and co-owner of Lebedyansky, a Russian juice company.

In 2008, he sold 75.53% of the Lebedensky juice business to PepsiCo.

In 2019, Nikolay Bortsov ranked 194 on Forbes’ list of wealthy Russians, with an estimated fortune of $550 million. On February 23rd, 22nd, Nikolay Bortsov was added to sanctions lists by the European Union for “supporting and pursuing actions and policies undermining the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine”. Later, the US and UK added Nikolay Bortsov to their own sanctions lists as well.

Nikolay Bortsov died suddenly on 23 April 2023.
