European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen met with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Brussels today.
There is one point in their joint statement regarding sanctions: “President Costa and President von der Leyen thanked Armenia for its close cooperation and the steps taken in preventing sanctions circumvention. Together with Prime Minister Pashinyan, they agreed to continue collective efforts to that end.”

Until recently, Armenia appeared in the materials of the competent EU authorities as a country where companies helped Russia circumvent sanctions. Ukraine is also imposing sanctions against Armenian citizens, the last such case occurred in June.
According to the Statistical Committee of Armenia, the trade turnover between Armenia and Russia reached $12 billion in 2024. The foreign trade turnover increased by 56.5%. Imports from Russia increased 2.1 times and amounted to 9.4 billion dollars, while exports decreased by 10.7% and reached 3.2 billion dollars.
