On February 24, the Australian government imposed sanctions on 180 individuals and legal entities, as well as ships of the shadow fleet associated with Russia. This is the largest package of sanctions adopted by Australia since February 2022.
The new sanctions are aimed at Russia’s financial and banking sectors, the defense industry, the aviation industry, the oil and gas industry, transport, as well as science and technology. For the first time, Australia has also targeted cryptocurrency organizations.
Among those who have been sanctioned:
- Dom Bank.RF;
- Alexander Bank;
- B-Crypto Cryptocurrency Platform;
- Netex24, a cryptocurrency exchange;
- Alexandra Melnichenko (Sandra Nikolic), wife of billionaire Andrey Melnichenko;
- Keremet Bank (Kyrgyzstan)
“We will continue to take actions aimed at further pressuring Russia’s oil revenues, and we expect companies to prevent their supply chains from inadvertently financing Russia’s illegal and immoral invasion of Ukraine,” Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister, and Richard Marles, MP, Minister of Defense, said in a statement.
