A yacht for Russians was put up for auction due to sanctions
In Estonia, the Tax and Customs Board put up for public auction a motor yacht that was confiscated last year in Tallinn due to European Union sanctions.
The yacht, which arrived from Latvia, was detained last year. According to preliminary information, the vessel was heading to Russia, although the export of such goods to Russia is prohibited due to European Union sanctions.
The yacht was confiscated on suspicion of violating the sanctions regime, and a criminal case was opened against those on board. The confiscation of the yacht was contested in court, but the seizure of the yacht was deemed justified.
According to EU Council Regulation No. 833/2014, it is prohibited to sell, supply, transfer, or export, directly or indirectly, to Russia or for use in Russia, goods listed in Annex XXIII of the Regulation. These include yachts and other recreational and sports vessels.
Currently, the yacht is being offered for auction at a price of 250,000 euros.
