The United States has designated two individuals and four entities based in Yemen and the People’s Republic of China (PRC) for their involvement in weapons procurement networks supporting Ansarallah, also known as the Houthis.
Brian E. Nelson, under secretary of the Treasury for terrorism and financial intelligence, claims that the Houthis seek to exploit various jurisdictions to obtain and transport the parts needed for their lethal weapons systems.
In total, the OFAC has sanctioned the Yemen-based logistics company, Al-Shahari United Corporation Ltd., which has facilitated shipments from PRC suppliers to the Houthis.
Additionally, three companies have been sanctioned: Guangzhou Alshahari, Hong kong Alshari, and Yemen Telecom. These companies were part of the Procurement Network.
The OFAC also designated two individuals: Maher Yahya Muhammad Mutahar al-Kinai, who supported Houthi military procurement, and Ahmed Khaled Yahya al-Shahare, the director of Guangzhou al-Shari.
