The Council of the European Union has decided to extend, for another year, EU sanctions on those responsible for destabilizing Sudan and obstructing its political transition.
As a consequence, sanctions in relation to the situation in Sudan will continue until October 10, 2026. This includes ten individuals and eight entities, who are subject to a travel ban, asset freeze, and prohibition on providing funds or economic resources, either directly or indirectly, to them.
For the past two years, the conflict in Sudan has severely impacted the lives of millions of civilians. Responsibility for this lies with the Rapid Support Forces, Sudanese Armed Forces, and their affiliated militias.
In October 2023, the Council adopted a dedicated framework of restrictive measures in view of activities undermining the stability and political transition of Sudan. It then adopted successive sets of restrictive measures against individuals and entities belonging to or affiliated with the SAF and RSF in January, June, and December 2024 and in July 2025.
According to EU materials, these persons from Sudan were sanctioned:
- Lieutenant General Mirghani Idriss Suleiman is an officer of the SAF and Director General of Defense Industry System;
- El Tahir Mohamed El Awad El Amin is a Lieutenant General in the SAF and Commander of the Sudanese Air Force since 1 September 2022;
- Ali Ahmed Karti Mohamed was the Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs under the Government of Omar al-Bashir;
