EU imposes sanctions on Al Azim Media Foundation

The European Union has imposed sanctions on Al Azim Media Foundation.

Al Azim Media Foundation is a media division of the Islamic State’s Khorasan Province, which is recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in Russia. The group is also known as Vilayat Khorasan and has existed for over 10 years, founded in the region of Khorasan, covering Afghanistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.

In March 2024, the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB) announced that it had suppressed the activities of a cell of Vilayat Khorasan, which is banned in Russia. The members of this cell planned to commit a terrorist attack against one of Moscow’s Jewish religious institutions.

During the operation, it was discovered that they were preparing to use firearms against the parishioners at the synagogue. When they were arrested, the terrorists resisted the Russian FSB officers with armed resistance, but were eventually neutralized by them.
