EU sanctioned supporters of al-Assad in Russia

The Council of the European Union has imposed sanctions on five individuals responsible for serious human rights violations and abuses in Syria. The Council has stated that these individuals are linked to the al-Assad regime.

Among the sanctioned individuals are three former members of the Syrian Republican Guard and the Armed Forces responsible for numerous serious human rights abuses under the al-Assad rule: Miqdad Fatah, Ghaith Dallah, and Suhail al-Hasan.

The Council has also sanctioned two businessmen who supported the previous al-Assads regime and represented their business and financial interests in Russia: Mudalal Khouri and Imad Khouria.

SanctionsLists.org found businessmen with these names and surnames on the Russian register of legal entities, according to which both businessmen hold Russian citizenship.

Former President Bashar al-Assad also fled to Russia after he was deposed on December 8th, 2024.
