Georgia declares compliance with sanctions imposed on Russia

Georgia had to declare compliance with sanctions against Russia.

On Sunday, June 8, the Revenue Service of the Georgian Ministry of Finance issued a statement regarding compliance. The statement came after news on Formula TV that Russian oil had been supplied to the Port of Poti using sanctioned ships from Novorossiysk.

The Revenue Service called these reports slanderous, stating that “the ship and the company it belongs to are not subject to international sanctions”. Since the introduction of sanctions, Georgia had fully complied with regulations and strictly controlled all types of customs transactions at the border. The Service said that making unfounded accusations about applying sanctions was another attempt to reach political goals.

According to the National Statistical Agency under the Government of Georgia, in the first quarter of 2025, the trade turnover between Georgia and Russia increased by 3.7% year-on-year, amounting to $642.8 million in monetary terms. Russia is among the top three trading partners of Georgia.
