Historic Kalvi Manor is being sold in Estonia. Is its owner connected to a sanctioned Russian businessman?

Christie’s International Real Estate Portal has published an announcement about the sale of the historic Kalvi Manor in Estonia.

According to the description of the manor, it was built in 1913 and has 28 spacious and beautifully decorated guest rooms, a helicopter landing area and a spa complex.

The local newspaper Virumaa Teataja believes that Belitex Invest OY, the company owning the estate, may be connected to Russian businessman Sergey Matvienko and businessman Omar Gurtskaya.

Sergey Matviyenko is the son of Valentina Matviyenko, the speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Parliament. In 2022 the US imposed sanctions on Valentina Matvienko and her son Sergey Matviyenko.

Sanctionslists has tried to verify this information. The address of Belitex Invest OY, according to the Estonian register, coincides with the address of the estate. Two board members are listed in the register – Russians, but residents of Estonia: Georgy Gurtskaya (born 1995) and Konstantin Zevlov (born 1975). Konstantin Zevlov is the beneficiary.

In 2016, the Russian newspaper “Delovoy Peterburg” published an article dealing with the debts of the bankrupt pharmaceutical holding “Empire Pharma”, the beneficiary of which is believed to be Sergei Matviyenko.

The article features Omar Gurtsky, CEO of “Empire Pharma” and Konstantin Zevelev, Director of Legal Affairs at “Empire Pharma”.

The Russian Register of Legal Entities found St. Petersburg businessman Omarovich Georgiy Gurtskiy. It is likely that he is the son of Gurtsiya Omar.
