The U.S. Department of Justice published a statement on charging Hungarian national Bence Horvath, who is suspected of exporting U.S.-made military-grade radio equipment to users in Russia.
Horvath was arrested upon his arrival at San Francisco International Airport, in San Francisco, California on August 23. According to court documents, Horvath and other individuals operated a multinational procurement network, contracting directly with various government entities in Russia and working on large-scale projects such as building operational radio communication systems in the Kursk region of Russia near the Russian-Ukrainian border.
Beginning in January 2023 or earlier, Horvth and his associates initiated discussions with a US radio distributor about exporting US-made military radios and related equipment to Russia. He planned to ship 200 military radios via a freight forwarder in Latvia to Russia.
