Israeli businessman sentenced to prison for exporting aircraft parts from the US to Russia

Israeli businessman Gal Haimovich, aged 49, has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for bypassing US sanctions and exporting aircraft parts and aviation equipment from US suppliers to Russia. He also agreed to a forfeiture order for $2,024,435 in addition to various aircraft parts.

Haimovich owns an international freight forwarder, and between April 2022 and April 21, he arranged for more than 160 shipments to the Maldives and the United Arab Emirates, which were responsible for illegally transporting the goods to Russia, including one component supplied to Russian company Siberia Airlines, doing business as S7 Airlines.

S7 Airlines is the largest private airline in Russia with the most modern fleet on the Russian air market. In 2018, the S7 Group signed a contract with Sea Launch, a company that provides services for launching rockets from a floating platform. Sea Launch was created to operate a spaceport and provide services for space launches from a mobile platform in low-Earth orbit.
