The Japanese government has removed Violetta Prigozhina, mother of Yevgeny Prigozhin, founder of the Wagner private military company from the sanctions list.
Violetta Prigorzhina is 84 years old and is the mother of Yevgeny Prigozhin, who died in a plane crash on August 23rd, 2017.
The United States and European Union have accused Wagner Group of human rights abuses in Africa and have imposed sanctions on the company. These sanctions were tightened following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Violetta Prigozhina was included on the list of countries’ sanctions because she is considered the owner of Concord management and consulting LLC, which is part of the Concord Group founded by her son.
However, the Court of Justice of the European Union decided to lift sanctions on Violetta Prigozhina because her business ties with her son had not been established. In September 2024, the EU lifted sanctions on Prigozhin’s mother, who ran a small art gallery called “Colors of Life” in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg.
