New Zealand has imposed new sanctions on Russia.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand, the sanctions list includes twenty-seven individuals and twenty-five legal entities, including companies involved in energy exports from Russia and high-ranking North Korean military personnel who have participated in military aid to Russia.
In particular, these individuals and entities were sanctioned:
- Aymani Kadyrova, mother of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov;
- Vladimir Bogdanov, general director of Surgutneftegaz;
- Dmitry Mezentsev, state secretary of the Union State of Russia and Belarus.
- Surgutneftegas is one of the largest oil companies specializing in exploration and production.
- PJSC Novatek is Russia’s second-largest natural gas producer after Gazprom.
- FSUE Atomflot is a federal state unitary enterprise responsible for operating the Russian nuclear icebreaker fleet to develop the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic zone of Russia.
Since the Russia Sanctions Act entered into force in March 2022, New Zealand has imposed sanctions on more than 1,800 individuals and entities, along with a range of trade measures.
