OLAF revealed an illegal scheme for the supply of cars from the EU to Russia

A scheme for the supply of cars from the EU to Russia in defiance of sanctions has been revealed.

The European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) has revealed a scheme for the supply of 766 cars from the EU to Russia, in violation of the current sanctions (the supply of cars to Russia over 50 thousand euros is prohibited).

The investigation began after receiving information from the Polish authorities, who identified suspicious exports of used cars from several EU member states. Although the cars were declared as destined for Turkey, the data collected by Polish customs indicated that their actual destination was Russia.

As a result, OLAF identified a large-scale scheme involving car exporters in the EU and importers in third countries, including Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Moldova.

At the moment, the results of the OLAF investigation have led to the initiation of criminal cases in three EU member states.
