Poland has blocked another fertilizer export channel from Belarus

Poland has imposed national sanctions on the Belarusian company GrandGranit LLC (Republic of Belarus, 220070, Partizansky district, Minsk, Radialnaya street, 11B, building 7B (office 6)).

According to the Polish government, the company was involved in circumventing sanctions imposed on Belarus’ fertilizer producer Grodno Azot. In January of 2023, the company’s ownership changed, as well as its address and activity type. The new owners were associated with companies Technospetstrading and Technospetsexport, which are already under Polish sanctions themselves.

According to Polish Interior Ministry officials, GrandGranit did not manufacture fertilizers but rather shipped them from Grodno Azot.

Grodno Azot owns the Khimvolokno Plant, a major producer of polyamide, polyester and composite materials. The EU imposed financial sanctions on Grodno Azot and the Khimvolokno Plant in 2021 for supporting President Alexander Lukashenko. The justification for the sanctions stated: “employees … who participated in peaceful protests against the regime and went on strike were fired, intimidated and threatened by both the Grodno Azot management and representatives of the regime.”

GrandGranit became the seventh company to be included in Poland’s sanctions list for its ties to Grodno Azot.
