Poland imposes sanctions on the Russian retail discounter

Poland has imposed sanctions on the founders of Svetofor, a chain of stores in Russia.

The Polish Ministry of the Interior and Administration has added TORG SERVICE PL. z o.o., and its shareholders Andrey Shnayder and Sergey Shnayder, to the sanction list.

The sanctioned company runs a chain of My Price stores in Poland. This is a Russian discount chain that was formerly known as MERE, which returned to the Polish market under the new name My Price. In 2022, few stores were closed in Poland due to war in Ukraine, according to the Ministry of Interior.

The Shnayder family, including Valentina, her husband Ivan, and sons Andrey and Sergey, began their activity in the alcohol industry by developing a network of Lenkom pavilions in Krasnoyarsk. In 2009, they created the Svetofor chain, which has become one of the fastest-growing supermarket chains in Russia since 2010, with about 1,600 stores in Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus, according to the documents of the Polish Ministry of Interior.
