Pro-Russian Moldovan politician Shor asks for the lifting of EU sanctions

On Tuesday, October 1st, the Court of Justice of the European Union will hear the case of pro-Russian Moldovan politician Ilan Shor. He is demanding that EU sanctions against him be lifted.

In the T-489/23 case, the court’s files apparently confuse the name and patronymic of Ilan Mironovich Shor, designating him as Mironovich Shor.

llan Shor was included on the EU sanctions list in 2023 for participating in the illegal financing of political parties and incitement to violence in Moldova. Ilan Shor, a citizen of Israel, entered the court as a defendant. In the 1990s his family returned to Moldova.

In 2017, he was sentenced to 7 years in prison for stealing $1 billion from the banking system. However, he left Moldova and obtained Russian citizenship. On April 2, 2024, a meeting of pro-Russian Moldovan politicians took place in Moscow, where they announced the creation of a political bloc called “Victory”, headed by Ilan Shor.
