The Latvian State Security Service (VDD) has asked the prosecutor’s office to open a criminal investigation against a resident of Latvia who is accused of unauthorized work in Russia.
This is a violation of sanctions imposed by the European Union. During the investigation, it was found that a Russian citizen who had obtained a residence permit in Latvia was employed by three Russian companies in the financial sector. He held positions as an adviser to the CEO, director of finance, and chief economist.
Citizens of EU member states are prohibited from providing consulting services to companies registered in Russia in the fields of economic activity and management. These sanctions were imposed by the EU in June 2022.
