Russia lifts trade sanctions on medical food imports from the EU

Russia has lifted trade sanctions on medical baby food imports from unfriendly countries.

On June 10th, the Russian government announced that it had decided to cancel increased import customs duties on medical, dietary, and specialized food products from countries that have taken measures that violate Russia’s economic interests. These products are essential for premature and low-weight newborns as well as children and adults with various illnesses, including metabolic disorders, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, and cancer.

The decree has been signed by the government and will be published soon.

The concept of an “unfriendly state” appeared in Russian legislation in 2018. Currently, the Russian list of “unfriendly countries” includes the European Union, the United States, Great Britain, Ukraine, Japan, Australia, Canada, Norway, the Republic of Korea, Montenegro, Switzerland, Monaco, North Macedonia, San Marino, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Iceland, Albania, New Zealand and other countries.
