Russia sanctions Renault

Renault has been sanctioned by Russia.

The Russian government has imposed sanctions against the French automotive corporation, Renault SAS. By government decree, the corporation was included in the list of legal entities engaged in activities in the field of military-technical cooperation against which special economic measures are applied.

The sanctions list was approved by Decree No. 851 of the Russian government on May 11, 2022, prohibiting transactions with companies added to the list and fulfilling obligations to them for completed transactions. In June 2025, the German commercial vehicle manufacturers, Daimler Truck AG, was added to the Russian sanctions list.

Renault left Russia in 2022. Prior to that, in 2021, according to estimates by the analytical agency Autostat, 131,552 Renault cars were sold in Russia, an increase of 2% compared to the previous year. The bestseller at that time for Renault was the Duster crossover, with 41,471 sold.

Before Renault was added to the sanctions list, Russian media reported massively in the summer that Renault was going to create production of military drones in Ukraine, citing the Franceinfo radio station.
