Lithuanian customs blocks car shipments to Russia

Lithuanian customs officers at the Kybartai automobile checkpoint (border with the Kaliningrad region of Russia) have first detained a Peugeot 2008 and then a Citroen C3 Aircross.

The first car was driven by a woman whose husband had bought three cars in the last three months, and the second car was driven by her brother. During the inspection, it was found that this family exported 13 cars to Russia over the past few months.

Suspecting that the cars were being exported to Russian citizens, in violation of EU sanctions, customs officers detained the cars.

The Lithuanian customs authorities remind that attempts to circumvent sanctions and transport cars to Russia are prohibited. Such actions threaten not only with a fine and confiscation of the vehicle, but also with serious legal consequences for violating sanctions.
