Starlink for the Russian military led to 11 years in prison

In Riga, the city court sent a man to prison for 11 years for being part of a group that sent Starlink Mini Kit satellite internet systems to Russia in violation of sanctions.

According to the Latvian Prosecutor’s Office, there were four people in the organized group. They ordered several dozen Starlink Mini Kit satellite internet systems from the American company SpaceX. They also purchased other military-related goods, including weapons parts, cartridge cases, bullets, and ballistic meteorological instruments. The total cost of these goods was approximately 200,000 euros.

The goods were imported into Russia and sold to individuals associated with the Russian armed forces. According to the court, the members of the group understood that the satellite communication kits would be used by the Russian military during the invasion of Ukraine.

The first convicted member of the group was found guilty of actions committed by an organized group “with the aim of assisting a foreign state in undermining the territorial integrity and political independence of another democratic state, as well as in violating sanctions imposed by the European Union.”

The sentences for the other three members of the group will be announced later.
