On November 13, the Court of Justice of the EU will consider the case of Russian billionaire German Khan, demanding to lift up EU sanctions.
German Khan started a business in the 90s after graduation, organizing a clothing cooperative. In 1990, Khan received an invitation to work at Alfa-Eco, which is part of Alfa Group. Then he was the Executive director and a member of the Board of Directors of Alfa Group. In 1997, Khan joined the Board of Directors of Alfa Group.
With a net worth of USD 8.9 billion, Khan is the 219th richest person in the world as of February 2023 according to Forbes, and one of Russia’s highest-profile billionaires.
Since March 15, 2022, German Khan has been under sanctions from all European Union countries due to his close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin and work in the financial sector.
On August 11, 2023, Khan was subject to US sanctions and was added to the list of sanctions against “well-known representatives of the Russian financial elite” for their involvement in the financial and construction sectors of the Russian economy.
German Khan is listed in the documents of the European Court of Justice as a resident of London, despite the fact that in September 2022 the Bloomberg agency reported his return to Russia after ten years of living in London.
