The European Parliament has adopted a resolution condemning Russia’s attempts to alter history and disseminate disinformation.
“The European Parliament… calls for the EU to expand its sanctions against Russian media outlets conducting disinformation and information manipulation campaigns supporting and justifying Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and calls on the Member States to swiftly and thoroughly implement these sanctions and to dedicate sufficient resources to effectively addressing this hybrid warfare; calls for the EU and the Member States to step up their support for the independent Russian media in exile in order to enable diverse voices in the Russian-language media,” – the European Parliament stated.
The European Union is consistently fighting Russian propaganda. By a decision of March 1, 2022, the EU Council banned the broadcasting of any content from the Russian state-owned RT and Sputnik channels on its territory. After that, sanctions were imposed against several Russian media outlets and their executives.
Other countries are also supporting the fight against Russian propaganda.
In January 2025, the London High Court banned three Russian media corporations from demanding the seizure of Google assets in order to collect fines issued by courts in Russia. According to Bloomberg, for years, Russian courts have imposed unprecedented fines on Google in an attempt to restrict access to information on its services and as punishment for non-compliance with international sanctions against Russian individuals and organizations.
