The Netherlands Public prosecutions service demands that the Russian be sentenced to 4 years in prison for violating sanctions.
In a Rotterdam court, a 44-year-old Russian was accused of violating the law on sanctions and stealing trade secrets.
According to the Netherlands Public prosecutions service, the suspect worked for several Dutch semiconductor companies between 2015 and 2024. He allegedly copied confidential documents, including information about microchip production, during his employment.
During his visits to Russia, he sold this information for cash to Russian contacts. The investigation revealed that between April 2021 and August 2022, he deposited a total of 43,900 euros into his bank account.
“Messages between the suspect and contacts in Russia show that they are involved in plans to establish a microelectronics manufacturing plant in Russia,” the the Netherlands Public prosecutions service said in a statement.
