Trump imposes sanctions on the International Criminal Court

Donald Trump, the US President, has signed an order imposing sanctions on the International Criminal court (ICC).

According to Trump, ICC has committed illegal and unjust acts against America and its close ally, Israel. The ICC started preliminary investigations against American personnel and allies without legitimate grounds. They also issued unreasonable arrest warrants for the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and former Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant.

Trump said that ICC has no jurisdiction over US or Israel because neither country is party to Rome Statute nor member of ICC. Both countries are prosperous democracies that strictly adhere to laws of war.

The ICC is an international criminal justice body responsible for prosecuting those responsible for genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and crimes of aggression.

The ICC issued a statement condemning the issuance of an executive order by the United States aimed at imposing sanctions on its officials and harming their independent and impartial work. “The Court stands firmly by its personnel and pledges to continue providing justice and hope to millions of innocent victims of atrocities across the world, in all Situations before it,” stated ICC.
