US blocks Iran’s shadow fleet with new sanctions

The United States has imposed sanctions on Iran’s shadow fleet and a Chinese company.

According to the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), part of the money from this business is going to the Houthis, who are believed to be behind the attacks on American forces.

The list of companies and vessels targeted by these sanctions includes 19 entities, including one from China: Shandong Shouguang Luqing Petrochemical Company, Ltd., which owns an oil refinery in Shandong Province. This company has purchased millions of barrels of Iranian crude worth about half a billion dollars.

In addition, eight tankers belonging to the shadow fleet were also targeted, including NATLINA 7 (flagged in Comoros), CATALINA 8 (Panama), AURORA 6 (Barbados), MONTROSES (San Marino), VOLANSI (Barbados) and BRAVALAKES (Barbados).

“The United States is committed to cutting off the revenue streams that enable Tehran’s continued financing of terrorism and development of its nuclear program,” said Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent.
