The United States has imposed sanctions on Mohammad Hamdan Daglo Mousa (Hemedti), the leader of the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces (RSF), and several entities assisting RSF. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that RSF committed genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan during the war with Sudanese Armed Forces and tens of thousands of people were killed in that war, and 12 million people lost their homes. Moreover, the military conflict caused a massive famine in Sudan.
The US revealed that several companies in the UAE are assisting RSF, including Capital Tap Holding LLC which manages 50 companies in 10 countries. Capital Tap has provided RSF with money and military equipment.
Other companies that have also been sanctioned by the United States include Capital Tap Holding and its manager, Capital Tap Management Consultancy LLC; Capital General Trading LLC, Creative Python LLC which serves as an intermediary to hide Hemedty’s business dealings to circumvent sanctions, Al Zumorood and Al Yaqood Gold & Jewellery L.L.C., Al Jil al Qadem General Trading L.C.C, Horizon Advanced Solutions General trading LLC – Sole Proprietorship.
The conflict in Sudan has previously been condemned by the UN. In April 2024, Volker Turk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, pointed out serious violations during the conflict: “The Sudanese people are suffering immense suffering during this conflict. It is marked by indiscriminate attacks on densely populated areas, ethnic attacks, and high levels of sexual violence related to the conflict. The recruitment and use of children by parties to the conflict are also deeply concerning.”
