US lifted sanctions against the pro-Russian Dodik

The United States lifted sanctions against the pro-Russian Dodik.

The US Treasury lifted sanctions against the ex-president of Republika Srpska (part of Bosnia and Herzegovina) Milorad Dodik and his family members Igor and Gorica Dodik.

Dodik is a supporter of the independence of Republika Srpska, for the last two years he has been accused of unconstitutional behavior, and as a result was sentenced to a fine, as well as deprived of the status of President by the decision of the central election commission of the country.

The United States imposed sanctions on Dodik in 2011 for obstructing the implementation of the Dayton Ceasefire Agreements, which ended the civil war in the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992-1995.

In recent years, Dodik has visited Russia several times, met with President Vladimir Putin, stating that he does not support sanctions against Russia.

“I am pleased with your economic progress and the fact that you are officially the fourth largest economy in the world according to the IMF. This suggests that the sanctions that have been imposed on you do not create the effects that Westerners would like to achieve. Unfortunately, sanctions are being imposed against us, against me personally, against my family, against the chairman of the parliament,” Dodik told Putin.
