US seizes an aircraft belonging to a Venezuelan state-owned oil company

The Dassault Falcon 2000 EX aircraft used by the sanctioned Venezuelan state-owned oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela S.A., has been seized by the Dominican Republic authorities. This was stated by the US Department of Justice.

President Trump issued Executive Order 13884 in July 2021, which prohibits US persons from engaging in transactions with PdVSA (Petroleos de Venecuela).

The Dassault Falcon 2000EX aircraft was exported from the US to Venezuela in 2017 and was registered under the tail number YV-3360. After that, the US investigation revealed that the aircraft was maintained in Venezuela with parts from the USA.

According to the Office of Foreign Assets Control, the Dassault Falcon 2000EX aircraft was used for the purposes of the Venezuelan oil minister Manuel Salvador Quevedo Fernández, who was also sanctioned by the US government.

“The seizure of a sanctioned aircraft used by the Maduro regime — clearly shows that sanctions and export control laws have teeth,” said Acting Assistant Secretary for Export Enforcement Kevin J. Kurland of the Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security.
