US supplier of aircraft parts charged for trade sanctions skirt

The US Department of Justice stated that FlightTime Enterprises Inc., an American subsidiary of a Russian aircraft parts supplier, and its current and former employees – Daniela Friery, Pavil Iglin and Marat Aysin – were charged with an illicit export scheme involving Russia.

According to the department’s statement, the three defendants worked for Flighttime Enterprises Inc., an aircraft equipment supplier with offices near West Chester, Ohio and Miami.

As alleged in the indictment, after Russia’s further invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Flighttime and the individual defendants knowingly and wilfully violated and evaded export restrictions imposed on Russia by shipping aviation parts to Russian end users including airlines subject to Department of Commerce temporary denial orders, by mislabelling shipments, providing false certifications and using intermediary companies and countries to obscure the true destination and end user. The indictment details four specific transactions totaling over $2 million in exports.

The company and three defendants each were charged with conspiring to violate the Export Control Reform Act. These are federal crimes punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
