Violation of sanctions for EU money: Six people were detained in Lithuania

Six citizens of Lithuania, Belarus and Russia have been detained in Lithuania, and two more are wanted. This is the result of an operation by the Financial Crime Investigation Service (FNTT) and the Department of State Security (VSD).

The suspects allegedly used companies in Lithuania engaged in the production of high-tech microchips, chips, navigation systems and other devices. It is assumed that these products could be used in violation of sanctions in the Russian and Belarusian military industries.

At the same time, the suspects submitted forged documents to the European Space Agency (EUSPA), according to which they were involved in a project funded by EU support funds. The total cost of the project according to the documents was more than 1.06 million euros, of which more than 745 thousand euros are funded by EUSPA. As a result, the suspects received more than 447 thousand euros of project compensation in their company’s account.
