Canadian citizen convicted of supplying electronics to Russia in circumvention of sanctions

Correspondence with his wife was an additional piece of evidence in the case of a Canadian citizen, Nikolai Goltsev (38), who was accused of violating sanctions. He was sentenced to 40 months in prison in the US for conspiring to break export controls.

According to the US Department of Justice, Goltsev bypassed sanctions and supplied electronic components and integrated circuits to Russia.

These components were later found in Russian weapons and electronic intelligence equipment seized in Ukraine. Goltsev used two companies – SH Brothers Inc and SN Electronics Inc – registered in Brooklyn for these supplies. The equipment was initially shipped to Brooklyn and then, with the help of shell companies located in countries such as Turkey, Hong Kong, India and China, it was redirected to Russia via intermediaries.

During the period indicated in the indictment, SH Brothers made hundreds of shipments to Russia worth more than $7 million.

Judging by the correspondence with his wife, Kristina Puzyreva, published by the US Department of Justice, Goltsev sympathized with Russia:
Puzyreva: what is Putin waiting for. He needs to destroy Ukraine.
Goltsev: yeah they’re gonna get f—ed either way.
Puzyreva: He needs to put fear into them. Those losers.
Goltsev: Well the way he is acting they have the right to do the same.
Puzyreva: I hate [ethnic slur for Ukrainians] anyway.
