Cyprus announces a new unit to monitor compliance with sanctions

Cyprus is to set up the new National Unit to monitor compliance with international sanctions.

The law on the creation of such a unit will be sent for consideration by the Council of Ministers , President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides said.

“No one is above the country’s reputation,” he said.

The president’s statement was preceded by a new package of US sanctions, that included three entities from Cyprus.

Three shipping companies based in Cyprus were sanctioned by the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on February 23:

AZORIA SHIPPING COMPANY LIMITED, Karaiskaki, 13, Limassol 3032, Cyprus; Organization Type: Sea and coastal freight water transport; Registration Number 408043.

ELIXON SHIPPING COMPANY LIMITED, Karaiskaki, 13, Limassol 3032, Cyprus; Organization Type: Sea and coastal freight water transport; Registration Number 408236.

GLORINA SHIPPING COMPANY LIMITED, Karaiskaki, 13, Limassol 3032, Cyprus; Organization Type: Sea and coastal freight water transport; Registration Number 408052.
