Germany may increase tariffs on fertilizer supplies from Russia

The German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action responded to a parliamentary inquiry from members of the CDU/CSU bloc regarding the use of Russian natural gas in Germany, but it does not provide information on whether other EU countries have LNG terminals that German companies use to import Russian gas.

In addition to gas, the ministry’s response also includes data on the supply of nitrogen fertilizers from Russia.

The ministry reported that it seems possible to refuse imports from Russia and that the federal government is considering further measures to reduce imports. Potentially, this could include an extension of existing import sanctions or an increase in tariffs on nitrogen fertilizer from Russia.
