Japan increases sanctions on Russia

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan has increased sanctions against Russia.

The ministry explained this by the situation in Ukraine. New sanctions have prohibited the export of industrial chemicals and equipment to Russia. These include:

  • Mineral fuels and oils and their distillates, including automotive oils;
  • Inorganic chemicals and precious metals;
  • Plastics and products made from them;
  • Steel products;
  • Tungsten powder and molybdenum, cobalt, zirconium and rhenium and products thereof
  • Boilers and machines, their parts
  • Electrical equipment and its components (e.g. lithium-ion batteries);
  • Yachts and other recreational or sports vessels, kayaks, canoes, fire boats, crane vessels and other vessels, floating docks;
  • Optical equipment, photographic equipment.

Before that decision, on April 3, Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Japan, had a telephone conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine for approximately 30 minutes. Prime Minister expressed his sincere respect for the courage shown by President Zelenskyy and the people of Ukraine, and stated that Japan will never waver in its position of standing together with Ukraine.
