New Zealand imposes new sanctions on Russia and Iran

New Zealand has imposed new sanctions on Russia and Iran’s military.

The Foreign Minister Winston Peters has explained the new sanctions, which target chemical weapons used on the front lines in Ukraine.

The sanctions also target Iranians involved in supplying ballistic missiles and drones to Russia. These transfers of Iranian weapons facilitate Russia’s illegal war against Ukraine, and New Zealand condemns those providing support.

These new measures expand the sanctions list by 12 points, including:
– Russian Ministry of Defense’s 27th scientific center, which is subordinate to the Russian Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Defense Troops under the Ministry of Defense;
– Radiological, Chemical and Biological Defence Troops of the Russian Armed Forces – Specialised Russian Land Forces military unit involved in Russia’s chemical weapons programme;
– Igor Anatolyevich Kirillov – Head of RCB Defence Troop;
– The Russian Ministry of Defense 33rd Central Scientific Research Institute – Subordinate of RCB Defense Troop;
– 924 State Center for Unmanned Aviation – Russian UAV Training Center;
– Military Transport Aviation Command – Entity involved in transferring UAVs from Iran to Russia;
– Ali Jafarabadi – Head of Iran’s Space Command, Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Aerospace Force (IRGC-ASF);
– Hamid Reza Sharifi Tehrani – Member of Board of Directors, Qods Aviation Industry;
– Mohammad Reza Mohammadi – Member Board Paravar Pars Co.;
– Sadegh Mousa – Member Paravar Pars Board;
– Mohsen Asadi – Paravar Pars Member;
– Seyed Hamzeh Ghalandari. Director General for International Relations at the Iran Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL).
