Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of the Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Defence Troops of the Russian Armed Forces, along with his assistant were killed in Moscow on the morning of December 17. A bomb placed in a scooter near an apartment building in Ryazansky Avenue in Moscow exploded. The Russian Investigative Committee reported this.
Igor Kirillov had been sanctioned by the UK on October 8 and later, New Zealand imposed sanctions on him as well. The Foreign Office said that the Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Defence Troops of the Russian Armed Forces and Igor Kiriliv are responsible for using chemical weapons in Ukraine and spreading disinformation from the Kremlin to cover up Russia’s dangerous behavior.
Igor Kirillov is known for his accusations against other countries for developing biological and chemical weapons. In 2023, he said that two months before the first reports of a new coronavirus infection, Johns Hopkins University conducted exercises in New York, during which actions were simulated in the context of an epidemic caused by an unknown coronavirus that was transmitted from bats to humans through an intermediate host, according to the scenario. Kirillov claimed that the development of COVID-19 exactly according to that scenario, as well as the readiness of American pharmaceutical companies to produce antiviral drugs, raises questions about the intentionality of the incident and US involvement. However, he has not provided any specific evidence to support his theory.
