South Korea has imposed sanctions on Hong Kong shipping company HK Yilin Shipping Co Ltd and the DPRK cargo ship Tok Song for transporting coal in violation of UN sanctions against North Korea.
The ship Tok Song (IMO 8360406) participated in the transshipment of coal in the waters near the North Korean city of Nampho in March 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea reported.
“North Korea has continuously procured materials and facilities necessary for the development of nuclear and missile technology through various illegal activities to avoid UN Security Council sanctions, such as transshipment between ships at sea and smuggling trade. The measures announced today demonstrate the firm will of our government to prevent the illegal development of nuclear and missile technology by blocking the illegal maritime activities of North Korea,” the South Korean Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
