The Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER), of the Swiss government has announced that Switzerland is adopting additional sanctions against Russia in accordance with the new EU measures.
The new sanctions target 69 additional individuals and 86 additional entities. Most of these are businesspeople, propagandists, members of armed forces and the judiciary, people responsible for the deportation of Ukrainian children, and members of the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB).
Additionally, EAER imposed a ban on advertising for four media outlets: Voice of Europe, RIA Novosti, Izvestia, and Rossiyskaya Gazeta, due to Russia’s ongoing propaganda and disinformation campaign.
“In contrast to measures in the EU, these media are not subject to a broadcasting ban in Switzerland. Although these channels are used for targeted dissemination of Russian propaganda and disinformation, the Federal Council still believes that it is more effective to counter false and harmful statements with facts rather than prohibit them,” – noted EAER.
